Tren Griffin, Charlie Munger the Complete Investor book review
In a nutshell (224 pages), this book is a condensed and well-organized collection of the massively successful Charlie Munger of Berkshire Hathaway. It’s been said, by Charlie Munger himself, that when he and his business partner Warren Buffet pass away, Warren will be remembered as a teacher, and he, Charlie, as a crank. This book goes against that statement and shows just how much an investor has to learn from Charlie.
What I got out of it
The real beauty of Charlie Munger's mentality, approach and success is that, thankfully, a strong stomach is of greater consequence to an investor than a strong mind. His advice is simple, clear, often funny, and proven. An investor of any age can safely take the advice of Munger and apply it intelligently to their method.
What was difficult
While it is much more of a personal issue than a problem with the book, I have heard or read many of the stories and quotes in the book. The reason is I’ve been fascinated with Munger and Buffet as well as their wild success and massive following for a long time so I had already heard or read quite a few of their thoughts.
Recommendation
While so much of what Munger thinks has been written and recorded the book is still an entertaining read, and likely it will offer some intelligent insights. If the cost of the book or the time to read it or listen to it may be prohibitive, then you can google for Munger quotes or watch some of his interviews online and get most of the knowledge that Munger likes to offer for free and in pithy soundbites.
