Peter Lynch - Learn to Earn book review

In a nutshell (272 pages), Learn to Earn is the famous investor Peter Lynch’s third book and it has the same goal and topic. Lynch looks again to teach people to handle their finances better, or at all. This third book was written with writer John Rothchild and is much more basic and simpler than the previous two books.

What I got out of it

Having read and understood the first two books Lynch wrote this one becomes unnecessary. That said, it is a good book for a beginner and covers important principles. My feeling is that this book really does show that Lynch wants to meet the reader where they are and help them on their road to investing and personal success.

What was difficult

It is odd that the books written by Lynch go in the opposite direction of any typical study program. While this book has value, it only does so if you have not read or understood or believed what was said in his first two. The impression that Lynch is losing faith in people's willingness to manage their own finances is mentioned but not felt in his second book. It is felt here.

Recommendation

An inexperienced investor or an investor who lacks confidence should read this book. It is better than the title sounds. Anyone who has had any success in financial markets won’t get very much out of it. They very well may have some points of view adjusted or corrected, but that can more easily be obtained from Lynch’s first two books One Up on Wall Street and Beat the Street.
