Thomas Stanley, Stop Acting Rich book review
In a nutshell (288 pages), this is a follow-up to Stanley’s earlier book The Millionaire Next Door. It’s essentially a thorough argument for working hard, staying humble and getting rich before trying to look and behave like you're rich. And when you get there, maybe you won’t feel the need to look so rich anymore.
What I got out of it
This book is full of exhaustive arguments illustrating the difference between the lifestyles and spending habits of the rich in America versus the lifestyles and spending habits of those who wish to look rich but are not. He also takes a deep dive into the efforts and messages of the luxury companies versus reality.
What was difficult
This may be the most repetitive book I’ve ever seen in my life. That’s not to say that it isn’t interesting, but it’s essentially the same, or very similar, argument over and over again with shots of nuance thrown in (which is important).
Recommendation
His first book is probably more than enough. If you did believe his message, then you don’t need to read this. If you think he was wrong or lying, you probably won’t believe him after reading this book either. So read The Millionaire Next Door instead and decide what, if anything, you want to do with what you learn, and give this book a pass.
