Benjamin Graham – The Intelligent Investor book review

In a nutshell (640 pages), this is the book that every person who is enthralled with the stock market claims to have read. For those who haven’t, modern editions have as much or more commentary than what was originally written by Graham making it very accessible.

What I got out of it

The basics, or the core, of a long-term approach to choosing businesses to invest in and keep (not the same questions but close). Graham lays out the way to view stocks and investing itself. The list of people who learned his lessons and went on to great success is too long and great to dispute.

What was difficult

If you can understand what Graham teaches, then you don’t much need the additional commentary which will seem a little redundant. That said, the time and effort that it takes to read the whole book is undeniably valuable if you take the lessons to heart.

Recommendation

Read the book. Twice. Stay calm. Apply the principles honestly, and you will benefit. Maybe not in the short term, but even Buffet took off to his massive riches much later in life than most people realize. But then again Graham explains all that in the book.
